In particular, each year we try to help one Merseyside charity by providing reduced-cost training.
Our chosen charity this year is The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation. This unique institution – the only charity in the UK dedicated to defeating the scourge which is lung cancer – has been in existence since 1990 but changed its name in 1994 following the death of the much-loved entertainer who had become its most prominent supporter and fund raiser. Staff at the foundation work tirelessly to carry out research; support sufferers and their families; educate people of all ages about the effects of smoking; support those who are trying to quit smoking and raise funds to continue and increase work in all these areas. We are proud to make our own very small contribution by working with their staff development managers to provide low-cost staff training in a number of areas of management and IT.
2009
Last year our charity was Nugent Care. We worked together to introduce a programme of IT skills improvement. Staff came from all over the organisation and from a wide variety of backgrounds and occupations. For some it was literally the first time they had used a mouse, for others an opportunity to develop existing skills. Whatever their starting point, they all found ways to improve their current skill levels.

Cathedral Concerts
For a number of years we have sponsored concerts given by the Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral Concerts Society a local musical charity offering a broad season of concerts of unusual repertoire.
2008 ended with the World Premiere of "Hymn to the Spirit of Fire" by Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, a piece for organ and choirs dedicated to Sir Paul McCartney.
